The sustainability imperative

Technology organizations are embracing sustainability today as a path toward future success.

Sustainability is embedded in the goals that many organizations plan to achieve over the next 10 years. It drives innovation priorities, including the need for novel solutions to address global sustainability issues such as climate change. But it is also reflected in the desire to transform business practices to meet an organization’s own sustainability goals.

Engineers share these business goals, but they also embrace sustainability on a personal level: Engineers are passionate about addressing climate change and other sustainability issues, and they expect their organizations to embed sustainability into their company strategy and the complete value chain.

Engineers’ passion for sustainability is both an opportunity for organizations, and a potential challenge. Companies that better embed sustainability into their corporate strategy and implement sustainability across the value chain may be more successful in attracting and retaining engineering talent. Those that struggle to achieve goals or deprioritize sustainability may put themselves at a disadvantage.
